On June 24th, 2006 our close friend, Ian Thompson, collapsed during a rugby match and passed away. A committee organized the 1st annual golf tournament called the “Ian Thompson Golf Classic”, that was held at the Kedron Dells Golf Club in Oshawa on June 22, 2007. The tournament is still going strong.

The day is about celebrating friendship and sharing stories, memories and laughter as we all gather to remember and honour Ian who so humbly touched the lives of so many.

Proceeds from the tournament are allocated 3 ways:

1. To the Trust fund set up for Ian’s two children; or the purchase of ‘something fun’ for Jack and Sarah to enjoy.
2. Development of the Oshawa Vikings Rugby Club Junior Program.
3. A Scholarship Fund set up at the G.L. Roberts Secondary School where Ian was an educator for many years.

The event is very personal to everyone involved; therefore, those with a personal connection to Committee Members and/or the Thompson family are the primary contacts which make up 144 golfers.
